The Senior Desk · Something you are already owed

Benefits you may already be owed

Public programs many Florida seniors qualify for and never enrolled in — Extra Help for drug costs, Medicare Savings Programs, VA Aid and Attendance, SNAP, Lifeline, the Florida senior homestead exemption, and the mature-driver discount. We show which you look likely to qualify for and link the official application. We never decide and never file. Free, and your answers never leave your device.

The idea: money and help you already qualify for

Every membership benefit here is the same promise — something you are already entitled to that nobody told you about. This one is the purest form of it: government programs you likely qualify for and never signed up for. The dollars are large, and millions of people who could get this help never do — usually because no one screened them, or because they looked at their income once and counted themselves out.

Screen yourself in a few minutes — it runs on your own device, and nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

Why we never ask "what's your income?"

Here is the problem almost every screener gets wrong. The seven programs below use six different definitions of income. Extra Help and the Medicare Savings Programs use a special Social Security count that sets aside part of your income. The homestead exemption uses the tax-return income of everyone in your home. SNAP uses a "net" figure after your medical costs come off. And Aid and Attendance subtracts your care costs before it even looks. Ask a 74-year-old "what's your income?" and they will tell you their Social Security deposit — which is the right answer for none of them.

So we never ask for "income." We ask about the pieces you can actually answer — your Social Security deposit, a pension, what's in the bank, what you pay for care — and we do each program's math for you. That is the whole design.

The care-cost question almost no one asks

If you are a veteran or a veteran's surviving spouse and you pay for care — assisted living, an in-home aide, large ongoing medical bills — read this twice. VA Aid and Attendance subtracts those care costs from your income before checking eligibility. So a veteran with a comfortable-looking income who is paying for care can still qualify, and the dollars are large. Take-up is catastrophically low, because people look at their raw income and stop. That is exactly the person this benefit is for.

What this is, and what it will never be

  • We screen; we never determine. Every result says you "look likely to qualify," never that you do. That call belongs to the agency, not to us.
  • We never file for you. The only thing we ever hand you is a link to the government's own application. There is no way for this tool to submit anything on your behalf, by design.
  • Nothing you enter leaves your device. No account, no backend, no saving, no tracking.
  • These are not insurance plans. Nothing here compares, ranks, or recommends any Medicare plan. Helping you find and apply for a public benefit is assistance, not marketing.
